Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about shrinking videos with ShrinkMyVid.

Is ShrinkMyVid free to use?

Yes. ShrinkMyVid is completely free with no account, no sign-up, and no watermarks. Compress as many videos as you like.

Do my videos get uploaded to a server?

No. All compression happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device and is never uploaded anywhere, which makes it completely private.

How do I get a video under 25 MB to email it?

Drop your video in, choose the Email (25 MB) preset, and click Shrink. ShrinkMyVid automatically calculates the right bitrate and resolution to land your file under the 25 MB Gmail and Outlook attachment limit.

What video formats can I compress?

You can drop in MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, and most other common formats. The compressed result is always an MP4 (H.264), which plays on virtually every phone, computer, and email client.

Will compressing my video reduce the quality?

Compression trades a little quality for a much smaller file. ShrinkMyVid shows you the original and the compressed video side by side so you can compare before downloading, and you can choose a larger target size for higher quality.

Is there a file size or length limit?

There is no hard limit. Because processing happens on your own device, very large or long videos depend on your computer or phone's available memory rather than any server cap.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. ShrinkMyVid runs in any modern browser, including Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. No app install is required.

Is ShrinkMyVid safe and private?

Yes. Since nothing is ever uploaded, there is no risk of your private videos sitting on someone else's server. The tool is privacy-first by design and works even after you go offline.
